Artxel
"How can I better current web applications with UX design to help create an engaging way for young adults to learn about art history?"
This was my thesis question for my final year studying digital design. For a bit of background, I love learning! Doesn't matter the subject, but finding something new is always a delight, something I'm sure that many people can agree with.
As time has gone on though, I found that the means in which people learn is something I've been interesting in. Take for example the main inspiration for this project, my brother, someone who loves to learn on his own whilst surfing the web, but finds learning in the typical lecture format a drag. The way in which learning has changed with the digital age and the rise of AI is also a point of concern just in the year since I began this project has made me find this idea more than ever.
For my thesis project, I decided to explore learning through gamification. Through the process of polls and interviews with industry professionals in creative design (one being Ann Lambson, former DAM Creative Director), I found that the best tools for teaching and learning are the ones that encourage people to think for themselves beyond. Artxel was a website design that would hopefully encourage that.
The thesis included a website design, a process book, and a physical installation at Redline Contemporary Art Center.
